“Moving on is a simple thing, what it leaves behind is hard.”
It’s a prophetic quote in lieu of the newly proposed stadium for the Minnesota Vikings, but what makes this stadium so freaking great anyway?
I’ll tell ya what!
Hubert H. Humphrey stadium is chock-full-o-memories; an indelible mark in Minnesota Vikings’ history.
Who can forget the Blizzard of 1991, which basically derailed Vikings’ football momentarily? How about Cris Carter’s 10,000th catch? Heck, what about the baseball memories that included the 1987 and 1991 World Series for that matter?
Alas, as the old adage goes: All good things must come to pass.
In reality, this stadium is not great for Minnesota fans; it’s freaking awesome in every sense of the word!
We can formerly discuss the 13,000 planned full and part-time jobs it will provide the community, let alone another 7,500 construction jobs. Just think of the percentage of those who are actual Vikings’ fans.
We can also discuss the formalities of the newly designed retractable roof that calls for 40 percent of the roof to come from the Vikings, saving the state millions.
How about the whole idealism behind making this place an actual “Vikings destination” that has direct correlation to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul for year round events and further destinations that can be enjoyed by the near three million strong fan base and future fan generations to come.
Well that’s all fine and good, but what about some good old fashion waxing about having some new digs, right?
It’s time to catch up with the times and reap the benefits of the skilled craftsmanship the construction world has to offer.
And what better way to breathe a little life back into a struggling team and a jaded fan base that has dealt with more issues than Peter Griffen’s first prostate exam than offering a shiny new stadium to compete in?
This is a long time coming, and many Vikings fans can agree on that much, hands down.
New digs are an important part of organized sports. More often than not, they offer additional amenities for the fan base to enjoy. This in turn funnels revenue back into the community.
New digs also have a funny way of taking an already well-designed team and catapulting them into greatness—the by-product of a change in scenery.
Why, one could even make the argument that there is not a single individual involved that won’t see some sort of benefit.
The plan makes sense, Minnesota!
It creates jobs, provides a proposed quality family destination for fans and future fans to visit, envisions additional revenue that will be funneled back in to the community and local government, and gives Vikings fans something to become awestruck over—that final emotional crescendo.
Nope, this stadium is not great Minnesota, it’s awesome!
Even NFL commissioner Roger Goodell believes it’s worth a squirt saying: “I think the commitment here is to get something done and I think that will ensure the success of the Vikings.” – Yahoo! Sports
The moral of the story is this: the Vikings have a bright future ahead of them after a few miserable collected years under their belts.
And with a 2011 draft outcome that took care of some key team issues while adding some seriously talented youth, there is nowhere to go but up.
The last piece of this puzzle is the keys to a new home; a home that already has a championship-caliber team and a taste for what “could have been.
